Stop texts stop wrecks. That’s the National Highway Travel Safety Administration’s current slogan.
Maybe you’ve heard the commercials before while driving… and it reminds you to put your phone down.
I certainly agree with the concept. It’s a corny slogan, but an important thing to try and stop.
Distracted driving is dangerous and deadly.
The truth is distraction sometimes gets a bad rap.
I think distraction can be incredibly helpful.
A few years ago our church hosted a golf tournament to raise money for our annual Halloween Kid’s Carnival.
What did you expect? We’re a suburban church located within two miles of a Country Club.
The twist was this golf tournament was for EVERYONE.
No skills, golf clubs or etiquette required.
I’ve never considered myself an expert on prayer.
For example, one time at a youth camp students were invited to come forward and pray at the altar.
As a student wanting to connect with God through prayer I stepped up and found a place to pray.
After a few moments I felt relaxed and rested; I was totally at peace.
Suddenly there was a tap on my shoulder. “Andy, Andy…” there was an urgency in the hushed whisper that woke me.
I wiped the drool from my mouth as my eyes struggled to adjust to the bright lights.
Enough Taking a Stand… I’m Taking a Seat
I grew up in an era in which Christians everywhere were challenged to take a stand.
Take a stand for Jesus.
Take a stand for your faith. For freedom.
Take a stand for God. For your school. For marriage.
It seems like God really needs his people standing up for him.
If you were to ask me what my favorite punctuation mark was (And why wouldn’t you? It’s a great conversation starter) my answer would be fast and simple.
I love the … aka the ellipsis, aka dot, dot, dot.
Really it’s my favorite punctuation by far (side note: the parenthesis is my second favorite).
The ellipsis is fantastic.
Depending on their context and placement in a sentence, ellipses indicate an unfinished thought, a slight pause, and nervous or awkward silence.
Ellipses are the ultimate cliffhanger.
